Skiing 44 years and Boot Fitting 15 years this year.
After a career of ski instructing at Mt Buller and Japan, I took on the role of Boot fitter at a ski store in Melbourne, Australia.
During the 90’s I worked as a ski instructor at Mt Buller in Australia and during the northern winter on the main Island of Japan at Madarao Kogen in the Nagano and Niigata prefectures. I also had the opportunity to work at Nozawa Onsen and Shiga Kogen ski areas.
Skiing many other ski resorts in the area. In the early 2000’s, I worked at Arai Mountain & Spa, also in Niigata.
At this time, I had begun working as a Boot Fitter in one of Melbourne’s biggest ski stores. Whilst doing this I was able to go to Niseko on the north Island of Hokkaido.
Working at ski school I learnt a lot about backcountry skiing in deep snow and began taking guided tours and worked as a Ski Boot fitter at night.
Not long after this I took on the role as head Powder Tours Guide based out of Moiwa Lodge in Hokkaido where I worked for 6 seasons ~ 2014 The Boot Lab opens ~ I then worked as Head Powder guide for an American tour company for 4 seasons guiding skiers through the backcountry of Hokkaido.
Ski boot fitting is a science and it gives me great pleasure to help people find the right boots to enjoy in the mountains. understanding how each person’s flexibilities work is the key to skiing in comfort.
